Wingd People of Ottawa

Hi everyone,

So I’m very excited to announce that I’ve been working with Wingd Ottawa (https://www.wingd.ca/) to publish a book on Ottawa this April!

As a part of the project, I’ve been photographing portraits of people in Ottawa to tell their stories. It’s been a incredible journey, I feel very lucky to know some incredible brilliant people and it’s very special to help them share their own story.

If you are interested in telling your story of what Ottawa means to you, feel free to email me at rebecca.hay93@hotmail.com.

Here are some of the portraits so far!

The Beautiful Mind

As a neuroscientist in training, I spend a lot of my time thinking about brains. So, in line with my current series redesigning body systems to emphasis their beauty, I made a watercolor on paper of the brain.

If you look closely, you can pick out the cerebellum, the pituitary gland, the pons, and kind of the corpus callosum :)

Shad Performance at Ritual – Ottawa

This last Friday, November 8th, the hip hop artist Shad performed at Ritual Night Club in Ottawa.

He is a very talented performance with an amazing stage presence. The club was absolutely packed, and filled with people who had seen his show many times before. Energy was high, the music was amazing, and the encore freestyle was unforgettable.

Excellent review from the Scene Magazine: http://www.thescenemagazine.ca/shad-at-ritual-ottawa-live-review/#

Photos taken for the Charlatan Newspaper.

Life in Colour

Hey readers! Sorry for a lack of posts lately, school has been somewhat crazy and unfortunately my camera is temporarily broken. So Ottawa Style is on a temporary hiatus, at least until I can fix my camera.

In the meantime, here is a watercolor done mostly to procrastinate from homework, based loosely off of a portrait in a magazine. By loosely, I mean the structure of the face was used but that it about all. It was really just a chance to experiment with watercolour paints (typically not my strong suit) and colours. Enjoy!
